Current Fishing Report

After a beautiful sunny, warm day on Ocracoke, we had folks report some catches of small bluefish, a few large blues, small flounder, a couple of black drum, a few puppy drum, and some sea mullets today. The water at the South end was pretty dirty and stirred up still, but the North end and middle of the island had pretty clear surf this afternoon. We did lose some ORV and Pedestrian access at the South end this morning due to some terns that fall under the consent decree.It makes it impossible to reach the spanish mackerel in the inlet unless you have a boat. However, we do still have almost a mile and a half of access to the right at the South end after coming out the ramp there. We have about seven miles total on the beach still open to ORV and pedestrians with some really nice fishing spots scattered up and down the beach.
Earl Bumbaugh of Mount Union, PA shared his photo of a nice 36" bluefish he caught this morning with us. John Swartz of Salisbury, MD came by with his 26.75" puppy drum this afternoon and posed for a photo. Dennis Newton of Fredericksburg, VA caught a 1 lb 11 oz pompano and came by the shop. Dwight Clark of Berea, NC had an eight pound bluefish yesterday. Steve Cundiff of Salem, VA had a really nice black drum and shared his photo. Glenn Terry shared his photo of a "Drumstick" charter on Sunday with 26 dolphin caught by the crew.
Inshore today was finally nice weather for the boats, but scattered reports for fish. Plenty of croakers, sea mullets and some grey trout were reported from some.
