Well the fishing on the beach has been about a "5" with the pretty warm weather and calm winds today. But later this afternoon the winds switched and we are hoping to see the surf kick up and get those fish biting on the beach this evening. Those in boats inshore had a "7.5" day though today. It was great weather and conditions for boaters.
Those on the beach reported nice size sea mullets, bluefish, flounder, several puppy drum, and small pompano. There were a couple of large drum caught out on the bar at the south end in the evening.
Jeff Gross of Ocracoke, NC came by with a nice sized flounder this afternoon for his photo. Gene Austin of Charlotte, NC shared his photo of a flounder that he caught and released this afternoon. Bill Cochrane of High Point, NC shared his photo of a 30" puppy drum caught today on a flounder rig with a finger mullet. He also shared his photo of a 32" puppy from yesterday morning. Fish OINC from Washington, VA found a spot for a couple of puppy drum and stopped by the store for this photo with the one he kept yesterday. George Robinson of Columbia, VA had a nice 23" puppy drum for his first drum. Pete Neal of Greenville, SC had a 3 lb 10 oz flounder yesterday and came by for his photo.Jimmy Jarman of Berlin, MD had a 27" puppy drum yesterday and came by the shop for a quick photo. Justin Francis of Charlotte, NC was photographed with one of his flounder last night. Will Kelly of Big Stone Gap, VA was also catching flounder yesterday and his photo was given to us. Mona Myers shared her photo of a her sea mullet she cauight yesterday. Mark Austin of Charlotte shared his photo of a 33" red drum he caught Tuesday evening. He caught a 42" and 43" out on thebar last night but no photos,since he did not want to drag the fish in to the camera on the beach. Frank and Bert Whitmer and Melissa Bahleda caught 21" to 24" puppy drum while boating inshore yesterday using mullet and pinfish as bait. Capt Norman Miller of "Rascal" charter shared another photo from yesterday's charter with Jack Florio, Gator Leworthy, Jake Simmons, and Darius Paulus and their 42"-48" red drum. Bert Clark of Edwards of Ocracoke was surprised by his catch of 45 lb cobia today while sight casting to a school of big drum. Christopher Kirby and Stephanie Olson of Rockville, MD had a nice catch of wahoo while fishing offshore yesterday. Jamie Canady and Kerry Owen of Topsail Beach, NC had a nice 43 lb and 39 lb wahoo today while fishing offshore. Jamie becomes are wahoo derby leader for her fish.
Inshore reports include speckled trout, grey trout, a few flounder, puppy drum and large drum.
