Fishing Report
With winds steady out of the NE at 15 mph and gusting up to 25 mph, it has been tough on the fishing. We are expecting the winds to calm down tomorrow and to have a nice afternoon Sunday and Monday. Those that are out this morning are reporting numerous bluefish, sea mullets, and and an occaisonal puppy drum. Yesterday we also had reports of plenty of puppy drum and black drum in the evening.
Gale Johnson of Cary takes over as our new derby leader for his 11 oz croaker that he brough in the shop today. Chante Mason of Ocracoke, NC had a nice bluefish earlier in the week and shared her photo with us. Todd Gaster of Moncure, NC had good luck on Thursday evening catching a black drum and releasing a 28" red drum. Randy Brown of York, SC, brought by his unusual catch of an octopus in a shell. The octopus had his bait and would not let go while he reeled him in. The octopus tucked himself back into his shell, so Randy brought him by in a bucket of ocean water for his photo and then released him. Another unusual catch from the surf this week was a banded rudderfish or slender amberjack caught while drum fishing at South Point. You never know what you will catch.
Have fun fishing!
Melinda
