Bluefish in the 30" to 36" size continue to make up the bulk of our fishing report. Smaller bluefish are being caught as well. In addition, we know of a few sea mullets and a couple of black drum and puppy drum.
Matt Pittman from Ocracoke NC caught a nice 25" puppy drum. The "Belpre Gang", a group of families from OH, WV, and VA had a nice catch of bluefish. Harold Arvin from Columbus OH had a nice 33" bluefish of over 9 lbs. Audrey Prescott from New Bern NC, John Prescott from Morgantown WV, and Jim Prescott from Atlanta GA all caught nice bluefish. Carol Johnson from Snow Camp NC shared a photo of her 5-3/4lb black drum. Marie Riddick from Ocracoke had a 32" bluefish. Michael Brough from Atlanta GA caught a 36" bluefish fishing near the pony pens. Bob McDowell from Millville NJ had a nice 5-1/2lb bluefish. And Terre Heath from Sneads Ferry NC caught another nice bluefish.
All of the larger bluefish reported are still being caught on bait, either frozen or fresh mullet, bunker, spot, etc. The black drum and some of the sea mullets have been caught on shrimp. Some of the smaller bluefish have been caught on lures.
Inshore we have heard of puppy drum and bluefish. It's a beautiful day, so hopefully we will have an offshore report tomorrow.
Have fun fishing, Alan.
