Update 2-9-08 with the photos. Also, Ed Wheatley reported catching a couple of puppy drum in the next hole over on gold Hopkins as well.

It's been a few days since the last report, because there wasn't much to write about. Either the water was too cold, there weren't any fish around, or the couple of people fishing just weren't finding the fish. But the last two days proved different. With pretty weather warming things up just a bit (water temps climbed to the low 50's), a couple of us found puppy drum. Chip Stevens from Blackbeard's Lodge found them yesterday afternoon, and Tom Atherton and I caught them with him this afternoon. All of the puppy drum were caught on gold Hopkins. Chip had three or so yesterday and a couple today. I caught 4 between 24" and 26" in just a couple of hours late today. A couple of small bluefish were mixed in as well. It was a beautiful afternoon on the beach with a perfect sunset.
I spoke with a couple of people that were fishing with bait, and I did not hear of anything being caught from them.
Springtime and more consistent puppy drum fishing is not far away. We're planning to get regular store hours started around March 1st. And I've heard that the Pony Island restaurant is planning to begin breakfast service on March 1st - just in time for the big drum to return!
Have fun fishing.
Alan
