The US Fish & Wildlife has reopened their public comment period on critical habitat for endangered species of birds which could result in more beach closures, especially at Oregon Inlet, Cape Point and Ocracoke Island. The US Fish & Wildlife feel there would be little impact on the local economy if more beaches, mostly the points of the islands, are closed to pedestrian and vehicle use year round. People are asked to email their comments to: ncplovercomments@fws.gov before July 30, 2007. More information can be found at the top of our message board. Don't forget your license

Surf fishing reports for today were black drum, a few puppy drum, pompano, and sea mullets up and down the beach. Nick and Eric Gilliam of Milan, OH had a nice catch of black drum on shrimp this afternoon. Jimmy Richards had a nice catch of spanish mackerel from the point on lures. South point is open as all chicks were lost to predation or natural causes. Linda and Lee Bowman of Winston Salem found a nice hole on the South point and had a citation pompano, 26.5" puppy drum, 30" drum, and black drum. Taylor Madisson of Dyches, NC beat her own record on the kids derby with a croaker caught on fishbites. Brandon Hickman and Steve of Johnson City, TN had some nice amberjack over 40 pounds on the charter boat "Devereaux" yesterday afternoon.
Thanks for sharing your photos and have fun fishing!
