Not so good fishing:
The US Fish & Wildlife has reopened their public comment period on critical habitat for endangered species of birds which could result in more beach closures, especially at Oregon Inlet, Cape Point and Ocracoke Island. The US Fish & Wildlife feel there would be little impact on the local economy if more beaches, mostly the points of the islands, are closed to pedestrian and vehicle use year round. Surf fishing reports for today include bluefish, flounder, pompano, sea mullet, pinfish, and spanish mackerel in the early morning.
Ike Riddick of Ocracoke, NC had a nice 22# cobia caught on mullet from the beach on a bluefish rig this morning. Josh Gallaway of Lake Toxaway, NC had several speckled trout, the largest at 2.75# caught on Mirrolures. He is our new derby leader. Nate Johnson of Woodbridge, VA had a nice trip out on the "Miss Teresa" yesterday and caught a nice flounder and spanish mackerel to lead our kid's derby board. Teresa Adams of Ocracoke, NC had a 6# spadefish and 1.8# pompano and a cobia that managed to get away this afternoon inshore. Nathan Wright of Granite Falls, NC shared his photo of a citation drum Tuesday night.
