FISHING REPORT ARCHIVERating System:Good fishing: Not so good fishing: Official Release of Information Date: 09/10/05 Event: Hurricane Ophelia Time: 1600 Next Expected Release: 09/11/05, 0700 The National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center have predicted a storm threat to Ocracoke Island, Hyde County, North Carolina on or about September 12, 2004. Hurricane Ophelia is currently forecast to produce increasingly rough surf and create Tropical Storm Force winds for Ocracoke Island. Therefore, Hyde County is expecting deteriorating weather almost immediately and will likely experience Tropical Storm force winds by late Sunday-Monday. As evacuation of Ocracoke is only possible by ferry, the County of Hyde must allow at least 36 hours for evacuation of the island. After consultation with the Ocracoke Control Group, a State of Emergency for Ocracoke Island has been declared by Nathan Sears, Hyde County Commissioner in accordance with Local Ordinances and N. C. General Statutes. A mandatory evacuation order is in effect as of 3:30PM for all non-residents on Ocracoke Island. Lodging establishments and realtors should ensure all tenants are notified promptly. Only persons with re-entry stickers and governmental vehicles may travel to Ocracoke at this time. Ocracoke evacuees should proceed to either the Ocracoke Ferry Terminal or the Hatteras Ferry Terminal as soon as possible. Ferry schedules may be altered, so plan early and allow plenty of time. All private water craft and aircraft should be removed from the island at this time if possible. Please do not call the ferry offices, as operators are busy and service is on a first-come, first-serve basis until further notice. During a State of Emergency, public safety services may be suspended, as situations warrant, or not available at all. For further advisories, please monitor your local media. Reentry information will be available after the storm at 252-926-4374 or 252-928-3162, phone service permitting. - - - - Evacuation Checklist: (__) Take your disaster supplies with you (__) Plan a destination and notify family (__) Turn off all utilities and secure your home (__) Take items for children and entertainment (__) Write down reentry information numbers (__) Take your pets!
