Not so good fishing:
Surf fishing was great for some anglers on Saturday. There were lots of spanish mackerel caught mixed in with bluefish. Mike Hartwick and his group from Queen Anns, MD did well using metal yesterday. There was also sea mullet, red drum (at night), sheepshead, gray trout, croaker and flounder. George Simmons from Fayetteville, NC caught and released a citation 46" red drum while fishing the south end of the island. Wendy Lewis from Charlottesville, VA caught a 3 lb. sheepshead from the surf as well as Dennis Newton from Fredericksburg, VA who came in with two weighing in at 4-1/2 lb. & 8 lbs. It seems like the spanish mackerel are being caught mostly early morning and late evening.
Sound fishing produced lots of spanish mackerel, 1 cobia, bluefish, gray trout and flounder.
Offshore reports for yesterday were great. Rex O'Neal, the fish cleaner for the Ocracoke Fishing Center cleaned 1,800 lbs. of fish. There were tuna, dolphin, wahoo, triggerfish, black sea bass, snapper and grouper.
That's all for now. Have a great day!
