Fishing is strong! I would say more bluefish than any other species have been reported. W. R. Baker from Rocky Mount, NC caught and released a 37" bluefish. Seok Kwon from Fairfax, VA caught an 8 lb. bluefish and his picture can be seen as our new derby leader for 2001. Bernie Glenn from Richmond, VA had bluefish up to 3 lbs. as well as many others including my sister Sandy Melson and Libby Newbern from Kitty Hawk who came to visit on Saturday. There was also a new "flounder derby leader", John Ziolkowski from Windsor, PA who came in with a 6 1/2 lb. 27" flounder caught directly off south point road using a white bucktail with pearl twistertail. Rich Girardi from Durham, NC caught and released a 40 and 43" red drum from the south end of the island. We also had reports of a 42, 44 and 46" drum. I don't have all the names just yet from those anglers but hopefully they will stop in before leaving the island. We were also catching lots of sea mullet, croaker, spot, puffers, dog sharks and skates.

Offshore fishing is going great as well. David Vick from Brodnax, VA was fishing on Ernie Doshier's charter "Gecko" and caught a citation wahoo weighing in at 57 lbs...Also caught offshore was yellowfin and dolphin. Wreck fishing produced black sea bass, triggerfish, bluefish and snappers.

Have a wonderful day and keep fishing!
